Fried Cabbage, Bacon, Onion, and Garlic

𝐈𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬:

6 slices bacon, chopped

1 large onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 large head cabbage, cored and sliced

1 tablespoon salt, or to taste

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/8 teaspoon paprika

𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐧:

Place the chopped bacon in a large stockpot and cook over medium-high heat until crispy, about 10 minutes. The bacon renders its fat, adding a rich, smoky flavour to the dish.

𝐀𝐝𝐝 𝐎𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐜:

Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot. Cook and stir until the onion caramelizes and turns golden brown, about 10 minutes. This step adds a depth of sweetness and aroma to the cabbage.

𝐒𝐭𝐢𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐛𝐛𝐚𝐠𝐞:

Immediately stir in the sliced cabbage. Continue to cook and stir for another 10 minutes, allowing the cabbage to soften and absorb the flavours of the bacon, onion, and garlic.

𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧:

Season the mixture with 1 tablespoon of salt (or to taste), 1 teaspoon of ground black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1/8 teaspoon of paprika. These seasonings enhance the natural flavours of the vegetables and bacon, creating a well-rounded dish.

𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫:

Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer the cabbage mixture, stirring occasionally. Let it cook for about 30 minutes more, allowing the flavours to meld together and the cabbage to become tender and flavourful.

Serve this mouthwatering fried cabbage as a savoury side dish or a hearty main course. The combination of crispy bacon, caramelized onions, and garlic makes it an irresistible addition to any meal. Enjoy!
